CCA M’ARCH, Studio 3 Communal Housing

Mothership is a cross generational housing for female activists situated on the corner of Alabama and 20th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco.

The proposal is an experiment in elderly housing, collective living and counterurbanism.

The project also takes on a parasitic nature, as the modular character of the building allows it to be replicated atop different rooftops across the neighbourhood, introducing mixed-use industry and activism in the form architecture.

The Mothership welcomes elderly womxn activists and educators to age in place alongside a transitional group of younger womxn, who in exchange for mentorship and housing, will assist in physical tasks. Privacy and gathering are moderated through level changes and translucence of walls and windows. The entire building is ADA accessible.
